Grave located at N57°09.6092' W002°05.8117' In 1899 the 'Aberdeen Weekly Journal' reported on the installation of electric light at the K ittybrewster Granite Works: "...An installation of the electric light has been fitted up in t he granite works at Kittybrewster belonging to Mr. James Knowles, and, on the occasion of th e turning on of the light last night, a number of gentlemen connected with the trade met in t he yard for the purpose of witnessing the experiment, this being the first establishment of t he kind into which the new illuminant has been introduced. All expressed themselves highly sa tisfied with the success attained. There are 50 incandescent lamps and six are lamps, and th e installation has been carried out by Mr. Riach, foreman for Shirras, Laing, and Co., Limite d. The gentlemen present at the inauguration last night were: Mr. A. Wilson, president of th e Granite Association; Mr. Lawson, of Macdonald, Limited; Mr. Garvie, of Mr. Charles Macdonal d; Mr. Arthur Taylor, Jute Street; Mr. Archibald A. Brown, Mr. Cruickshank, Torry; Mr. Willia m Morgan, Portland Street; Mr. J.A. Sangster, engineer; and Mr. A.T. Stewart, who has recentl y come from Edinburgh to fill the post of engineer in the electrical department of Shirras, L aing, and Co."
